Okemos, Michigan

Okemos is in Meridian township in the county of Ingham. It was originally a farming community, but is now considered a Lansing suburb. The Okemos Public schools mascot is the Chiefs, although some have questioned the political correctness of this despite being named after a Native American chieftain. With a population of just under 23,000, Okemos is known for such places as the Meridian Mall and the Meridian Historical Village which houses the growing farmers market each year.
